And you thought I was old!
Sure, prehistoric man discovered the bent limb, straight shaft weapon of survival, and as they say, the rest was indeed history.

As life changing and life-saving as the bow and arrow was way back then in caveman times, the dynamo that is archery was nearly as powerful many millennia later when some visionary men of the wild re-discovered this phenomenal way of life in the heat of the industrial revolution.
Of course the archery/bowhunting life remained alive and well and downright pivotal in the aboriginal tribes of the world, most notably the amazing bowhunting masters of our Native American BloodBrothers.
Before I had ever heard of Ishi or Pope and Young, when playing cowboys and Indians in my MotorCity youth, I always chose to be an Indian. With my handmade bent sapling bow and not-very-straight stick arrows, I was a force to reckon with. Instincts alone guided my stealth and natural hand-eye arrow flinging development, and there was no doubt that I was on my way.
Lord have eternal mercy, those were invigorating and imprinting days!
Being extremely fortunate to be raised by a bowhunting -father in the deerwoods of Michigan, I eventually discovered the special bowhunters that were pushing this incredible sport forward.
Great men like Fred Bear, Howard Hill, Ben Pearson, Chief Compton, Jim Easton, Doug Walker, Bob Munger, Dick Mauch, Jim Dougherty and Wisconsin’s Roy Case were bucking the trends of firearms development to return to the ultimate challenge of closerange archery.
The history of these bowhunting legends drips with much spirit and nostalgia. It was 75 years ago that a single man stepped forward all knowing that the bowhunting way of life would not only endure, but explode.
It was 1941 when Roy Case fought for the 1st legal archery deerseason in the modern world and formed the Wisconsin Bowhunters Association with a small group of less than 200 hardcore, dedicated woodland archers.
As America’s largest state bowhunting organization, I am very proud to be a life member and congratulate all the wonderful families of the WBA for their hard work and dedication.
They will gather on March 4-6 at the Chula Vista Resort in Wisconsin Dells to celebrate allthings bowhunting, conservation, family and the great outdoors American way of life.
The great Wisconsin bowhunting legend Art LaHa will be inducted into the Wisconsin Bowhunting Heritage Foundation Hall of Fame and worldclass Texas bowhunter Frank Noska will be the guest speaker sharing his incredible bowhunting quest for the North American Super Slam of big game.
