Deer, deer and more deer! Say hallelujah and pass the doe in heat pee baby! And go ahead and stomp a little on that mockscrape while you’re at it, won’t you!

I hope everyone is joining me in celebrating these glorious good old days of deerhunting we have right here, right now all across North America. Can you believe how our Spirit brother the deer has become such a powerful force in our lives? Do you get all bug-eyed with a big old Cheshire ear to ear grin on your face everytime you see one like I do?

Do you like to stroll nonchalantly downwind of the deer urine aisle at your favorite sporting goods store and heartily snort the essence of pungent fumes just for that titillating suckerpunch of nostril flaring olfactory stimuli?

Of course you do. Afterall, there is no demand for a Tofu and Tofu Hunting magazine that I have heard of.

Can you believe how many millions of America families consider deer and deerhunting into their quality of life priorities right up there with church, work, school, baptisms, weddings, anniversaries, graduations, funerals and other important family rituals?

I mean, Lord have mercy, we got it so good we got it so bad!

Even though many deerhunters have been hard at it for a month or so already in those wonderful early opener states, we must all admit that as good as the early seasons are, the adrenalin and predator cravings increase exponentially come the wonderful month of October. And as great as September was and how much greater October is, we must all also admit that November is the big banger of hunting months.

As usual I am all crazy giddy and excited as I type this NugeBlog about our cherished deerhunting lifestyle, so instead of dreaming about the glory of November deer insanity running amok still a month away, let us plunge headfirst with mucho gusto into the wonderful predator dream month of October, shall we!

There is a reason that these are the good old days of deerhunting, and that is the incredible VALUE that healthy deer numbers and the critical VALUE of wildlife habitat means to so many of us. We all should know, celebrate, share and promote to everyone constantly the many billions of dollars that exchange hands annually for the sport of hunting.

3 billion plus in Wisconsin, 3 billion plus in Michigan, 3 billion plus in Pennsylvania, 7 billion plus in Texas, a few billion here, a few more billion there, many billions and many more billions here, there and everywhere!

I’ve got news for you, in each state that the game departments are proud to acknowledge the many billions of dollars generated into state economies for hunting activities every year, I can guarantee you that they are shortchanging us by a large swath.

We all know that the purchase of all those licenses, fees, tags, permits, stamps, sporting goods, food, lodging, travel, fuel, restaurants, supplies, vehicle costs, taxidermists, butchers, guides, outfitters, feed, supplements, foodplots, various equipment and an ongoing list of hunting necessities accumulates to staggering numbers well into the many billions of dollars yearly, I don’t think even that long list begins to cover some of the more substantial revenues directly associated with our hunting passions and obsessions.

I know for a fact that many millions of hunting families across America have land and homes that were purchased with hunting opportunities in mind, and in many cases, hunting opportunities were the prime motivation in such a huge lifetime purchase.

I myself bought my very first home and every home since specifically because it included killer hunting ground and wildlife habitat.

I would bet you 1000 to 1 that there are millions of us out here that dedicate a substantial portion of our life support revenues on all sorts of hunting considerations including homes, land, farms and farm equipment, crops, vehicles, ATVs, even airplanes and other assorted major expenditures.

Did you know that Texas hunters spend more than $500,000,000 each year just on deer feed?

Now add up all the money spent on various deerfeeders and the numbers are staggering.

And I bet if you added up the costs of foodplot and wildlife based crop plantings, seed, fertilizer, center pivot irrigation, ranch hands, fuel, cultivation, taxes, upkeep and all the various expenses necessary for such wildlife feeding agriculture, I can almost guarantee you it exceeds the billion dollar mark in most states.

I will opening my sacred October in my birthstate of Michigan, but will hit the deer rich heavens of Texas ASAP and I wish you all the best of luck!

Hunt hard, hunt smart, hunt like you mean it, aim small miss small and may The Great Spirit of the Wild be forever at your side.
