Every morning and every afternoon, September, October, November, December, January and February, I unleash my pure predator beast, and head to my chosen ambush location for another hunt of a lifetime.
The excitement that broils down below has not subsided one whit for the past 60 plus years of bowhunting, and I look to the heavens and thank God constantly for giving me this precious gift of fiery deerhunting passion.

As October 2015 throttles on, each day intensifies with critter activity and spine tingling fascination with what may await me in my sacred deerwoods.
I have passed many a dumpshot on young bucks so far this season, but my salivating venison dreams propel me onward to arrow some of the many big she-deer swampdonkeys that inhabit my family hunting grounds.
This gorgeous October sunrise found me perched deep in the swampy forests at lake’s edge, SpiritWild vidcam capturing the phenom, with well-defined deertrails cutting to and fro along the sharp sloping ridgeline leading up into the soybean and corn fields above.
Mallards and wood ducks called back and forth as cawing crowspeak resonated the now sun cloaked woods around me, when the faint shape of deer appeared in the distance.
Very few things in life make me happier than the sight of my brother, the whitetail deer, and the psyche overload of soul cleansing drama began again.
I was now out of body, and the Jimi Hendrix line, “..there ain’t no life nowhere” seemed rather applicable.
My breathing was reasonably controlled and I repeated my shot sequence mantra in preparation for my aim small miss small mystical flight of the arrow backstrap ballet.
These old Michigan matriarch does represent the ultimate challenge for the bowhunter, for they live to detect predators in trees and are so fidgety, attentive, high strung, spooky, maniac alert, cocked, locked and beyond ready to rock, doc!
And so was I.
When she finally stepped clear and looked away at 22 yards, my sight pin found the crease that my eyes already owned, and my lightweight 50# Mathews NoCam sent a 400 grain Rage Hypodermic tipped Nuge-GoldTip deathray straight into her life giving pumpstation.
With a high mule-kick, she scrambled her last for about 25 yards and was dead faster than any death nature offers.
I leaned back against the old oak, and let out a protracted sigh of relief, joy, fulfillment and thanks.
I loaded up another arrow and sponged up the essence of the physics of spirituality, masticating, slurping and wallowing in the magic moment.
Crunching leaves brought me back to reality as 5 more stunning does came parading down the trail into range.
Before I could even think about it, I was at fulldraw and that bowhunting dream moment replayed itself as the Rage slammed home deep into the big donkey’s shoulder.
Double Live Gonzo erupts again, and the little boy from Detroit witnesses a flurry of critter and arrow images much like the high velocity photos of a thousand events encapsulating a New Year’s Eve memory tsunami.
Lord have mercy, and give Mother Nature a big old greasy smooch on the lips!
We tracked and retrieved both trophy does and celebrated the perfection of God’s perfect tooth, fang and claw renewable creation on digital video for Spirit of the Wild TV on Outdoor Channel, to further promote this annual season of harvest and the precious gifts of life we accept from The Great Spirit.
I hunt on, I celebrate on, I aim small miss small on and there for I live on.
