Off To The Races

Alright all you Spirit Warriors of the Great American Outdoors backstrap army, happy happy September to you all! Ladies and gentlemen; start your spirit engines! We have Spirit of the Wild liftoff 2021, and thank God almighty, just in the nick of time!

With the charge of the dove opener light brigade bursting forth into the hinterland just yesterday on September 1st, I think we can all agree that the #1 family outdoor recreation day on planet earth could very well be the universal opening volley celebration for the annual hunting season, and I for one say, “Pass the ammunition and thank God in heaven!”

Though some states continue to violate the sound science mantra of responsible wildlife management, and still embarrassingly and foolishly forbid dove hunting, nonetheless, many millions of American families were afield for this sacred traditional outdoor family fun dove opener all across America.

Dove season represents the ultimate maximum family hours of recreation, phenomenal BILLION$ of dollars generated and the wisest of use of these precious, renewable, delicious, wild-game resources.

It’s hard to believe in the insanity of 2021 that such perfection still exists, but it does!

And of course, many bowhunters in numerous states were on stand for the September 1st deer opener, totally escaping the madness around the world and experiencing the perfection of soul-cleansing, hands-on conservation venison pursuit relief.

Early goose and teal season saw hardcore dedicated waterfowlers and their retrievers having the time of their lives. Moose, mountain sheep, mountain goats, caribou, bear, pronghorn and elk are being pursued, as well, with much vim and vigor in the North and the West, and sacred backstraps are hitting the dirt with joyous consistency.

Some of the best fishing opportunities occur in the fall, as well, and many of my buddies are wrestling tight lines and bringing home the hard-earned yummy slabs of salmon, trout, walleye, bass and panfish by the gazillions.

I have been so very lucky to be invited to join my buddies in Alaska, the Yukon, all across Canada, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Arizona, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, California, Washington, Oregon, Minnesota, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia and elsewhere, but the old guitarplayer has wildly surpassed my travel quota over a lifetime of rock-and-roll touring, so I am beyond happy and thrilled to say thank you very, very much and just wander my sacred historic family Michigan stomping grounds, sleep in my own bed, hunt with my family, friends and dogs without any traveling whatsoever.

If I was any happier I would implode! I’m so excited I can hardly stand myself!

Heck, I am of the mindset that my farthest treestand on my farm is a long haul!

So, here’s a loud and proud Hallelujah to all the hunters, fishers and trappers across America and beyond. And here’s a dynamo BloodBrother, Spirit of the Wild SALUTE to all you real, genuine, hands-on conservationists and environmentalists that are smart enough and tuned in enough to continue this perfect participatory relationship with God’s miraculous creation.
