Canadian Researchers Tracking Deer and Coyotes

In Deer & Deer Hunting’s coverage of the Southeast Deer Study Group meetings, we noted that coyote predation is a major topic among Southern deer researchers. Likewise, Michigan and Wisconsin researchers are also looking into the effects of coyote predation.

Well, Canadian researchers are also monitoring this trend. From the CBC:

Researchers with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Trent University are in Eastern Ontario tracking deer in an effort to better understand how they coexist with humans and predators like coyote.

The crew of researchers have been tracking and trapping white-tailed deer this winter in the Marlborough forest, about 70 kilometres south of Ottawa near Merrickville, Ont.

Next up for the researchers: Capture and track the coyotes that live alongside these deer.
