The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is no longer allowing in-person hunter education courses due to Governor Tony Evers’ COVID-19 restrictions.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office attempted to hold hunter safety courses on two separate occasions but have been denied by the DNR. As a result, students will not be able to receive the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Hunter Safety Certificate, and they may decertify hunter safety instructors. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office was forced to cancel their hunter safety course scheduled for June 22, 2020.
This means those aged 17 will not be able to complete their required field day. However, anyone can obtain a mentored only hunting license and hunt without first completing a hunter education course. He or she must be accompanied by a licensed hunter (mentor), hunt within arm’s reach of the mentor and follow other rules. Students who are 18 years of age and older are not required to take a field day and can get certified completely online.
