Described by peers and friends as hard-working, tough, honest and dependable, longtime Maine game warden Maj. Gregg Sanborn was remembered fondly at his memorial service earlier this week.
Sanborn died Feb. 6 after a battle with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. He was 47.
Sanborn worked 23 years with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. He advanced from field warden to the division’s second-highest rank.
“I met people he picked up on violations. I talked to a couple of them and they said, ‘I was wrong, but he was very much a gentlemen in the way he made the arrest,'” said Fred Westerberg of Fryeburg, Sanborn’s neighbor growing up, in this story in the Portland Press Herald.
