George Simolke calmly watched the wide-racked buck step out into the field and wondered about how many game camera photos he’d seen of the mature monster in the last six years.

Simolke made one well-placed shot with his 7mm Mag rifle and dropped the buck in his tracks. After laying his hands on the 13-point buck with two droptines, the 68-year-old Simolke didn’t have to wonder anymore. The Louisiana giant made the mistake of showing up during daylight hours instead of roaming at night.

Simolke’s jaw-dropping buck green scored 187 5/8 inches with 13 scorable points. That included a pair of droptines that were almost identical and a 21.5-inch wide inside spread.

“I have been seeing this buck, or one like him, on my trail camera for the past six years,” Simolke said. “Every year, he’d have at least one drop tine; sometimes two. One year it would be on the right antler and the next year on the left. I can’t say if it’s the same buck but that really doesn’t matter; I’m just glad he finally showed himself in daylight.”
