First off, Happy Valentine’s Day 2015 to all my fellow heart penetrators out there! I sure you hope you have showered your sweety this special heartslamming day with gushing affection, flowers and backstraps! If not, MOVE IT! There is still time!
In my never ending Mystical Flight of the Arrow into the pumpstation celebratory lifestyle, there is simply no doubt whatsoever that those of us that live to aim small miss small for the heart on deer and other deserving targets have a far superior understanding of the crucial role the old pumper performs for our quality of life, both literally and figuratively.
It’s not just a pretty image on a gift-card, the mighty heart delivers life itself.
Therefore, (stick with me here BloodBrothers) that same heartfelt (get it?) dedication to a reasoning predator clean kill providing the ultimate hard earned renewable organic sacred venison protein nutrition for our family and friends gives us a much deeper (deeper = better penetration) understanding of Valentine’s Day.
Okay, now that we have that earthshattering new relativity clarified between deerhunters and Valentine’s Day confirmed and out of the way, let’s get on with NugeBlog#76, shall we?
And just to be sure no one ever questions how focused and true to my word I am, as you read this, after presenting her with a handsome handmade Valentine’s Day card, a gorgeous bouquet of flowers and big ol’ WhackMaster bearhug and greasy BBQ kisses, my Queen of the Forest Valentine Mrs. Nugent and I will be shooting our Mathews bows, then loading up in a buddies’ airplane and zooming off to our annual Valentine’s Day hunting weekend in the glorious deer infested paradise of South Texas.
(Shouldn’t I get the Priority Czar Lifetime Achievement Award or something here?)
With 90+ percent of the Texas landmass under private ownership, it’s easy to see why the best deerhunting on earth is here at home in the Lone Star State. All the best deerhunting in the world is on private property because everyone knows private property owners care more and do everything better than government bureaucrats. Sad but true.
Shemane and I will join SpiritWild VidCamDude Kris Helms and his lovely deerhunting fiancée Amanda at the spectacular Rancho Anejo not far from the Mexican border, as the guests of Tim Vail and his generous family for a much anticipated yearly gathering.
Like all my friends, Tim and his wonderful family are all gungho deerhunters and he has a vast chunk of dream wildlife habitat that we are so very blessed and privileged to hunt each February.
Whitetails galore, javelina, wild hogs, coyotes, bobcats, fox, quail, rabbits, songbirds of every description and the occasional cougar call this stunning landscape home. With Texas Parks and Wildlife Managed Land Deer Permit system in place, we are able to deerhunt right up to February 28 each season. I think only Arkansas and northwest Florida deerhunting goes that late. How wonderful is that?
Valentine’s Day 2014 was a great adventure, and Shemane killed a great trophy 5 year old buck with her Excalibur crossbow. This buck was one of the largest ever killed on the Anejo and everybody was beyond pumped. (always lots of pumping going on for Valentine’s Day)
Last week I was at another breathtaking ranch outside of Uvalde Texas. Spreading as far as the eyes can see where the beautiful rolling Hill Country meets puckerbrush infested South Texas, the Ox Ranch (oxranchhunting.com) is 18,000 acres of absolutely incredible wildlife habitat that may very well be the greatest deerhunting paradise I have ever had the honor to hunt.

Shemane has already penetrated my heart for 26 glorious years of wedded bliss, and that we share a deerhunting campfire on these special holidays and occasions plays an enormous role in our love life and soulmate teamwork.
