Did I say Happy August? You bet I did! I know, I know, it’s not that big of a deal in our wonderful world of deerhunting, but it is a whole month closer to October than July was! And I have a funny feeling that I’m not the only one getting all tingly and goofy inside, knowing that our time is near!
By Ted Nugent
I’m still on the road Blitzkrieging my rock-n-roll dreams across the hinterland on the greatest, most intense and crazy-fun rockin’ Sonic Baptizm tour of my life, about as far removed from the silence of the peaceful deerwoods as a human being can possibly be, but when I get up in the morning in each new city, sprinting hither and yon, to and fro across the heartland, the air I snort and gulp is showing good signs of increased crispness, and the fall indicators are building predator steam in this old addicted rock-n-roll deerhunter’s belly.
Have you noticed the sumac is already turning gold, orange and yellow? Look at those almost fully developed acorns, hickory-nuts, beech-nuts, walnuts, persimmons, various fruit trees hanging all fruity, and the corn and bean fields fully golden and getting closer to the harvest by the day.
Feel that neck-hair standing to attention?
Did you see the skeins grackles, blackbirds and starlings starting to flock up? Do you see the increased deer activity in the fields along the roadways a little bit earlier than last month like I do?
Of course you do. We are afterall the deerhunting party animals and the party is right around the corner and about to explode!
By the time you read this NugeBlog#152, I will have cranked out 28 blistering primal rockouts with another 26 soul sweat dripping concerts ahead of me to September 4, culminating in my 6571st professional performance since 1957.
No wonder I so wildly crave, value and cherish every silent hour in my treestands!
The lyrics to my killer song Workin’ Hard Playin’ Hard from my 1977 Cat Scratch Fever album pretty much sums up life as we know it.
Man started out livin’ in a cave. Felt right at home nobody’s slave. Just wanted to be left alone. All he wanted was a happy home.
Now it’s my turn to show my stuff. It’s sometimes fun it’s sometimes rough. I’m workin’ hard to earn my way, but lucky me my work is play!
Workin’ hard playin’ hard helps me get through each day and night. Workin’ hard playin’ hard makes everything alright!
I’m here to sow my wild seed. I don’t want much just what I need.
Workin’ hard playin’ hard helps me get through each day and night. Workin’ hard playin’ hard makes everything alright.
So here’s to all my fellow workin’ hard playin’ hard all American rugged individual deerhunters who bust our ass to earn our own way, to be an asset to our family, our community and to our country, making America strong.
Here’s to the real Americans who sacrifice and risk to earn our own way. A big old Uncle Ted Backstrap BloodBrother SALUTE to all those who work so hard all year long so we can play hard come the miraculous soul cleansing deerseason each fall and winter.
You can all be damn proud of yourselves as we prepare to head to the deerwoods knowing that we earned another glorious hunting season.
I am proud to call you BloodBrothers.
I smell fall! Snort it like you mean it!
